Common Toyota Repairs and Maintenance

Updated: Aug 25, 2021

Many people are surprised to learn that The Subaru Guys service Toyota and Lexus Vehicles, as well as other Import makes and models such as Mazda, Honda, Acura, Nissan, Infiniti and Volvo. While Toyotas are among the most reliable vehicles out there, they still require routine Maintenance and Repairs.

Keeping your Toyota safely on the road will require staying on top of Routine Maintenance and Repairs and following Toyota's Recommended Maintenance Guidelines. In most cases, Toyota recommends that Toyota owners schedule a Service Appointment every six months or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first. The Maintenance performed on your Toyota during each Service Appointment varies by vehicle model and year, driving conditions and other factors that our trained Automotive Technicians evaluate during our Digital Inspection process. Recommended Maintenance for Toyotas often includes services such as Tire Rotation, Oil Change and Inspection of Wiper Blades, Brake Pads and Fluid Levels.

Oil Change

All vehicles need Oil to keep the Engine lubricated and in proper working order and even the most reliable cars and trucks, such as Toyota's, need Oil Changes on a regular basis.

Staying on top of Oil Changes is one of the most important things you can do to extend the longevity of your Toyota. The Subaru Guys recommend keeping a close eye on the mileage sticker from your last Oil Change and checking the Oil level often. If you smell Burning Oil, hear Clunking Noises, or your Engine is Overheating, your Toyota might be dangerously low on Oil.

If you can’t remember the last time your Toyota had its Oil Changed, be sure to visit a Trusted Toyota Mechanic In Albuquerque right away!

Brakes

Over time, using your Brakes causes them to wear out – that’s just the nature of the friction it takes to slow and stop your car. With Winter on its way, and the stop and go traffic of Albuquerque, your Toyota brake pads and rotors take a lot of abuse. A common rule of thumb for Toyotas is changing your brakes every 50,000 miles, but if you hear squeaking or grinding noises when you slow down, or feel your Brake Pedal Vibrating, it might be time to take your Toyota to The Subaru Guys for a Brake Inspection, no matter how many miles it has been.

Sensor Checks

Modern cars have an array of Sensors on board, many of which will trigger the notorious Check Engine Light. Sometimes an Illumined Check Engine Light is an indication of a serious problem, and in other cases, it’s simply a bad sensor that needs resetting or replacing.

If you see warning lights on your dashboard, our ASE Certified Mechanic's can run Diagnostics alongside our Digital Inspection process to find the source of the issue, and provide you with necessary Repair Estimates for your Toyota.

Tire Rotation

The differing weight on the Front and Rear Axles, causes Uneven Wear on your Toyota Tires. Since Toyotas have the Engine in front, the front Tires typically bear more weight than the rear Tires. Front-Wheel Drive vehicles have not only the Engine, but also the Transaxle in front, adding to the weight difference. Moreover, additional stress is placed disproportionately on the Front Tires by Braking and Steering. Therefore, Tire Rotation needs to occur more frequently for Front-Wheel Drive Vehicles. In countries with right-hand traffic, right turns are tighter than left turns and since most cloverleaf interchanges and parking ramps are right-hand curves, the left Front Tire wears faster than the right front Tire. The Sidewalls on the right Tire tend to be bumped and rubbed against the curb while parking your Toyota, causing Asymmetric Sidewall wear. Additionally, Mechanical problems with your Toyota may cause Uneven Tire Wear. Misaligned Wheels will tend to be dragged along by the other Wheels, causing uneven wear in that Tire. If the Alignment on your Toyota is such that the vehicle tends to turn, the driver will correct by steering against the tendency.
