Can I Just Add Brake Fluid To My Car?

Updated: Aug 8, 2022

Our Shop will often get calls regarding Brake Hydraulic Systems, namely the brake Fluid. While topping the Brake Fluid up may seem like a simple task, it is important to understand why the fluid level has dropped in the first place.

It is a normal operation of the Brake Master Cylinder Fluid level to lower as the Brake Linings wear down with use. A simple inspection of brake pads and shoes will verify whether or not your car needs Brake System Service or just a top up of fluid.

Most Modern Japanese Vehicles are equipped with a Fluid Level Sensor that notifies the operator that the level is too low. While topping the fluid may make the Malfunction Indicator Light turn off, it is important to have the Wheel Brakes inspected for Wear as soon as possible.

Tip:

Car manufacturers like Nissan, Mazda, and Subaru Recommend having the Brake Fluid replaced every two years or 30,000 miles of driving.

So the next time your car is in for our thorough complimentary multi point inspection, ask about recommended maintenance. A menu service or fluid exchange may help you avoid costly repair and towing bills in the future as well as save you time.
